How a migration is done here

Seven rules, and the first one is the one most migrations break.

Losing search traffic in a redesign is not bad luck. It is a redirect map nobody made.

  2. 02Build a redirect map for every URL that has to change
  3. 03Carry over titles, descriptions and structured data
  4. 04Leave no page orphaned in the new navigation
  5. 05Move images and assets with their provenance intact
  6. 06Re-test every form before the old site goes dark
  7. 07Compare old against new, page by page, before publishing

The other option

You do not have to migrate at all.

If a rebuild is not the right move this quarter, keep the site you have and add the intelligence anyway. Plenty of accounts stay that way, and that is a legitimate outcome rather than a failed sale.
